Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

Plan now to come celebrate the birth of Jesus at our joy-filled, home-spun Christmas Eve Candlelight Service! Invite your friends and family to join us on Wednesday, December 24th at 7:00 or 9:00 pm. The doors will open 30 minutes beforehand, and you won’t want to miss the pre-service game! The services include singing, laughter, and worship. If you want the best seating, be sure to get in line early!

Disabled seating for Candlelight Service

Those whose disabilities prevent them from waiting outside on Christmas Eve are invited to wait in the lobby by entering the west (street) entrance. Your escort must first receive two seat savers from the lobby host, and then will wait outside in line. When the sanctuary doors open, they will place their seat savers on two seats, return to the lobby and seat you. Click here for more information.

Children’s Church Christmas production

On Sunday, December 21st (rescheduled from December 14th) at the 9:00 and 11:00 am services in the sanctuary, the Children’s Church drama and choir will be performing the Christmas musical “The Christmas County Spelling Bee.” Come support our kids and be inspired by their holiday message and music.

There will be no Children’s Church classes for kids in 1st through 6th grades. Instead, they are invited to watch the production with their families. 3-year-olds through Kindergarten are to check into their clubroom as usual. Later they will come to the sanctuary as a group. The Nursery through 2-year-old clubrooms will still be open in the Ark.

Truth Project revision

Due to the overwhelming interest in The Truth Project, many more group leaders must be trained. Therefore, instead of leading a group of participants, Doug and Jean Vanderpool will shift their focus to preparing a group of leaders, who will then be able to provide groups for many more participants. If you are interested in leadership training, and have not already so indicated, contact Doug at doug@bayshoreoffice.com. We will have another opportunity to sign up for specific Truth Project groups in February. Watch for more information at that time!

“Gifts of Love” to help at Christmas

For one more Sunday, our kids can donate money for gifts to families from our church community who are in need. Our desire is to provide three families with groceries for Christmas dinner and gifts for each family member.

If your family would like to be part of this, your child(ren) can bring your offerings to Children’s Church each Sunday through December 21st. Imagine how grateful these families will be when they watch their children open gifts of love that were made possible by you!

Christmas card blessings

Everyone likes getting mail, but it is amazing what a Christmas card filled with God’s love means to someone in prison. Each year His Place people have generously sent Christmas messages of hope and cheer to the prisoners in Monroe.

We have the opportunity to give Christmas card blessings again this year. You can pick up the names of prisoners and instructions at the church this Sunday. Contact Steve Schell at 445-2073 or the church office for further information.

Arktoberfest pictures

If you came to Arktoberfest on Halloween evening, you might find your picture in the Children's Church photo album. If you missed Arktoberfest, be sure to check out all the funny, cute, and creative costumes! You'll find the Arktoberfest 2008 photo album, along with all the Children's Church albums, here. Or you can click here to go directly to the photos!

Ladies’ Christmas Festival of Good Cheer

Ladies: Join us in the sanctuary on Friday, December 5th for a jam-packed, fun-filled evening of Christmas cheer. We’ll enjoy a skit, speaker, crafts, karaoke, good food, Christmas carols, bingo, and fellowship. We’re expanding to the Ark this year, where the hardest part of the evening will be choosing which craft and demonstration stations to attend. From beauty tips to gift ideas, ornaments to appetizers, there’s sure to be something you’ll learn and enjoy! There’ll be photo opportunities too, so don’t forget your camera. The doors will open at 6:30 pm; the program will be from 7:00 to 9:30 pm. Tickets, $10 each, will be available at the church this Sunday.

Church office closed

The church office will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 27th and 28th, for Thanksgiving.

Operation Christmas Child

You and your family can share the love and hope of Jesus with a needy child by participating in this year’s Operation Christmas Child! Volunteers from this mission project will hand-deliver your shoebox of gifts to a child in need, somewhere around the world, along with Christian literature in his or her own language.

Pick up a brochure at the church. If you would like to use a resealable, plastic shoebox, you can also pick up one there; a donation of $1.25 per box is suggested. Purchase gifts for your Christmas Child, pack your shoebox (standard-size only!) according to the brochure’s instructions, and include a donation of $7 per box to help with shipping and other costs. Multiple box donations can be combined.

Then on Sunday, November 23rd, be sure to bring your “box of blessings” to the church as we gather together all our Christmas Child gifts during the morning services.

Since 1993 , Operation Christmas Child has delivered more than 61 million shoe box gifts to children in about 90 countries around the world. Click here to learn more about this enormous outreach of love to the world's children.

Christians and Halloween

Should Christians participate in Halloween? What about those pagan origins? Should we hide our porch lights under a bushel that night? At His Place, we view Halloween as an opportunity to “model Jesus to our community.” If you would like some additional information on this perspective, please pick up a free copy of Pastor Bruce’s sermon “Trick or Treat?” on CD at the information counter in the lobby. All ladies are invited to enroll in Stepping Up: A Journey Through the Psalms of Ascent. We will meet at the church to review the weekly lesson in small discussion groups, followed by an insightful video teaching by the author, Beth Moore.

Groups meet Tuesdays 7:00 to 9:00 pm or Wednesdays, 10:00 am to noon for this 7-week study that begins February 12th (evening) or February 13th (daytime). Enrollment ($20) is at the back of the sanctuary this Sunday. Something new: late registrations are no longer permitted, so be sure to enroll yourself and your friends by Sunday, January 27th.

Fireside starting a new study

College-age (high school graduates through 24): join us on Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in the Youth House. We are starting a new six-week study called InTransit: What Do You Do with Your Wait?

We wait for what’s next. We wait for the right person. We wait for the perfect job. We wait for the right time to buy our first home. We wait as people come and go from our lives. We wait when we don’t know what to do next. And most of the time, we don’t like the wait.

In this study, we’ll trace the lives of Joseph, David, and Jesus as they waited—sometimes painfully—to see God’s promises come to pass. What was true for them is true for us today: there is great purpose in the waiting. Call Ben at 757-1407 for more information.

So? Do you sew?

We are looking for a person with experience in design work with industrial materials and access to a heavy duty sewing machine. Weatherproof coverings need to be made for our large table and chair carts. If you would like to help with this project, please contact Judy Fisher in the church office at 757-3111.

Jason Gray featured here on January 6th

On Sunday, January 6th our morning services will feature the music and ministry of Jason Gray. Join us at 9:00 or 11:00 for a concert of what ChristianMusic.com calls "Christian music at its finest, combining various styles, such as rock, folk, and soul ... while effectively expressing the Gospel."

Known for writing music for the heart, mind, and spirit, Jason recently completed a Christmas tour with renowned Christian artist Michael Card. Christianity Today describes his “honest, and approachable pop” as “the smart singer/songwriter adult contemporary of Bebo Norman or Sara Groves, with shades of PFR, Steven Curtis Chapman, and MercyMe.”

These New Year mini-concerts are free of charge, and the public is invited to attend. Click here to find out more about Jason Gray and his music.

More reviews:

Soul Shine Magazine: “Jason Gray leaves you speechless, like someone articulated exactly what you wished you could say.”

CBN Music: “He presents his flaws and need for God with a simplicity that’s understandable and inspiring.”

Jesus Freak Hideout: “Jason Gray's honest, sincere, and real approach to songwriting is the kind of writing that the Christian pop and worship genres have been needing to hear more from.”
